2016 Faces of the Mother Header B

Welcome from Janet

In 1992 sitting on the floor in Agni Jaya Charlotte Starfire’s living room, I met the Goddess. And everything changed. Through prayer, meditation, ritual, and ceremony Agni Jaya showed me how to walk through the round open door between the visible and invisible worlds. Through that door, I met the Divine Feminine, kindled the sacred fire, celebrated the ancient Moon Ceremony, walked Mother Earth’s Medicine Wheel, and prayed the Prayer of the Directions. All these years later, these ceremonies and prayers of devotion are still the center of my life.

In honor of 2016, the year of the double Divine Feminine, I committed to embody the Divine Feminine every day. And 2016 has been, and continues to be, the richest, most joy-filled and creative year of my life.

Agni Jaya and I have created a total-sensory, mystical retreat inviting you to move beyond praying to the Divine Feminine and step into embodying her. Why? Because the Mother has many faces—and one of them is yours!

GUIDES

Janet Conner is a unique voice in the spiritual landscape. In her hands, the ordinary is extraordinary; the mystical, accessible; and all of life a dance with soul. She runs a popular weekly radio show on Unity.FM called The Soul-Directed Life.  She is the author of Writing Down Your Soul, The Lotus and The Lily, Soul Vows, and and her newest Find Your Soul’s Purpose scheduled for release in 2017. She has also co-authored The Soul Discovery Coloring Book with illustrator, Christine Pensa, of Art that Moves, and two journals designed for soul writers: My Soul Pages and My Life Pages. She teaches all the mystical practices in her signature series, Your Soul Wants Five Things.

Agni Jaya Starfire ignites vision for inspired change, building bridges across cultures, both within her work as an international banker as well as her spiritual practices.  Prior to embarking on her joyous awakening relationship with Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati, she ‘apprenticed’ with Native American teachers, OhShinnah Fast Wolf and Sun Bear.  She has been teaching spiritual workshops and leading ceremonies for over 25 years.

Always a spiritual Bhakti, for the last 8 years, “Ramani” Betsy Vaught has immersed herself in the teachings of Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati and her Kali Natha Yoga.  Taught directly by Ma and Acharya Shakti Durgaya Kali and the beautiful senior teachers at Kashi Ashram, she shares this yoga for all with heart centered awareness and love.  Ramani is a 500 hour RYT through Yoga Alliance.

FACES OF THE MOTHER RITUALS AND CEREMONIES

The Moon Ceremony Throughout the ages, many cultures have recognized and honored the spiritual essence of the Divine Mother.  The initiatory Moon Ceremony shared by Agni Jaya Starfire is an oral tradition said to date back 40,000 years. A ‘keeper’ of this tradition, Agni Jaya has been sharing this ceremony with others for over 25 years. Brought to her by her teacher, OhShinnah Fast Wolf, the ceremony awakens each participant’s inner connection to the Divine Mother in any of her many forms. Agni Jaya will teach us the protocol, how to build a sacred fire, how to make prayer bundles, and how to speak and release your prayers. Kashi is preparing a sacred fire circle for us just outside our teaching space. It is a rare and sacred honor to be able to participate in an original Moon Ceremony.

Kali Natha Yoga is moving prayer, a yoga of transformation that awakens the heart of devotion. Kali Natha Yoga is deeply spiritual in nature, designed to enable the practitioner to experience oneness and achieve a state of union with their Beloved. Ramani Vaught will lead us in Kali Natha Yoga each afternoon. The classes will ignite your spiritual passion and awareness.  Classes are suitable for beginners and students of all physical abilities.

The Medicine Wheel is Sun Bear’s unique vision to “draw people into a better relationship with the earth and all the other beings upon her.” (The Medicine Wheel) Agni Jaya Charlotte Starfire apprenticed the teachings of the medicine wheel and other sacred ceremonies directly from Sun Bear. Several years ago, she was invited by Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavati to build a Medicine Wheel at Kashi to honor Earth Traditions. Agni Jaya will introduce the principles of the Medicine Wheel and guide us in a healing circle within the wheel, using chanting, drumming, rattling, and shamanic visualization to renew and heal this life, past and future. Practices like this connect us to, and honor, our Oneness with ALL Life.

The Labyrinth is “an ancient mystical tool that can help us prepare ourselves for the ‘transformation of human personality in progress’ and accomplish ‘a shift in consciousness… It connects us to the depths of our souls so we can remember who we are.” (Walking a Sacred Path). The labyrinth at Kashi is a classic medieval 11-circuit Chartres Cathedral model. Janet will teach how to enter the labyrinth as “a birth canal…the Womb of the Divine Mother” (The Sacred Path Companion) and receive her wisdom for yourself.

Diwali Festival is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in autumn. One of the most significant festivals in India ~ also known as the Festival of Lights ~ it’s a five-day celebration that includes good food, fireworks, colored sand, and special candles and lamps. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness or good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Its celebration includes millions of lights shining on housetops, outside doors and windows, around temples and other buildings in the communities and countries where it is observed. People wear new clothes or their best outfits as the evening approaches, and the goddess Lakshmi is honored along with other deities such as Ganesha, Saraswati, and Kubera depending on the region of India. Lakshmi symbolizes wealth and prosperity, and her blessings are invoked for a good year ahead.

EXPERIENCES OF PAST ATTENDEES

Kashi is Like Being in the Womb

She held my hand - Janet physically held my hand as we walked at Kashi. I was still in the dark place.  Searching. Kashi is like being in the womb. I let the love envelop me. When we were doing the sacred moon fire I looked up into the Sky as Charlotte called holy women's names. When she said Ma I saw a falling star. I knew it was a special sign to me. I've been calling "Ma" ever since. I am in the vortex of love and light now. It is delicious. Thank you Janet for being the field guide!

You Are Worth It!

I found the 2015 retreat, at the Kashi Center,  with Janet Conner and Charlotte Starfire nothing less than transforming. The inspiring site and scrumptious meals are more than enough reason to go:  your body, mind, and heart feel refreshed and relaxed, and this makes deep spiritual work enticing and within reach. The workshops, fellowship, and immersion in rituals and nature helped me fall - and rise - in self-love and spiritual empowerment; and I learned many skills that I took home with me for my daily practice. Most importantly, the community of open-minded and creative people will lift your spirit.  The experience lingers and helps you stay motivated long after you return home. I returned a strengthened and happier person, and I made connections and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Transformation Beyond Expectation

I can still feel the mystery!  I had read that the gathering would focus on ancient rituals and ways of recognizing and connecting with the Divine Feminine, but I truly did not anticipate its impact on my spiritual life. It was impossible to not feel Divine Love - the love of Mother Earth, of Sophia, Shakti and Tara, and of each beautiful woman in our small circle who opened her heart to the mystery, to each other and to me. In just these few short days, I discovered the power of ritual, silence and sisterhood, sat in prayer within Holy Temples, strolled lush grounds amidst birdsong, and dined on food nurtured by the earth and the loving Kashi staff, who welcomed us as family. I hope one day your path will lead you to the Kashi Ashram - it was a life-changing experience for me because I went with a yearning and an open heart.  Nothing since has been the same because Divine Love always finds her mark.
