“Stop being so small. You have the whole universe within you.” Rumi

Friends, soul writers, lovers of prayer,

Tonight, Sunday, December 20 is the eve of a most auspicious Winter (Summer down under) Solstice.

For the first time in 800 years, Jupiter and Saturn, the largest planets in our solar system, are coming so close that they appear to be creating a massive star.

These two massive teachers—Jupiter for expansion and grace, Saturn for structures and discipline—meet every 20 years.

What makes this Solstice gathering so radical is that they are meeting in an air sign for the first time in 800 years. They’ve been dancing in earth signs until now.

So this shift into Aquarius, an air sign, is a major transition from earth-bound to heaven-born.

And it’s one we’ve been singing about for fifty years. If you’re my age, Hair was the album of 1967-1968. Everyone in my dorm knew every word.

And, come on, admit it, you still know all the words too! I grant the lyrics say when Jupiter aligns with Mars, not Saturn, but you get the idea.

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the Age of Aquarius
The Age of Aquarius
Aquarius! Aquarius!

Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind's true liberation
Aquarius! Aquarius!

Love has not been steering the planet for a long, long time. And it seems so strange to say, but perhaps this year of plague has helped us get ready.

We’re weary of misunderstanding, mistrust, lack of sympathy, rampant falsehoods, constant denigration, and derision.

After centuries of watching leaders and rulers inflict massive suffering, we are ready to see love made visible.

Visible in all our relations—our relationships with one another, with the creatures who share this blue planet, with Mother Earth, and with ourselves.

Perhaps that’s why this Jupiter/Saturn Star is so visible. She is singing the song of Love Made Visible.

In the opening gathering for Exhale! last Wednesday, Emma Kupu Mitchell spoke about the significance of this Solstice-Star event.

To help us understand just how significant this is, she invited us to consider what happened 800 years ago.

Here are just 2 momentous shifts in human history:

  1. In 1215, King John very reluctantly signed the Magna Carta.

We take the Magna Carta for granted now as a simple factoid in a history book. But it was momentous. For the first time, a king relinquished some of his powers to ordinary citizens.

  2. Chartres Cathedral was completed in 1220.

Chartres is revered as the ultimate expression of French Gothic Art. Dedicated to “Our Lady”, the land actually harkens back to ancient Goddess worship in Druid and Carnutes.

On the floor is a massive labyrinth made of 272 stones, one for each day in the womb. When you step onto the labyrinth, you know you are stepping into the Womb of the Divine Mother—regardless of the name you call Her.

So this gathering in the sky is mysterious, magical, and mystical.

What does this meeting of the planets portent for life on earth?

Will we find a new way of living in harmony, with power not filtering down from above but rising from the ground in all beings?

Will we find our way to a new way of living on this precious planet, sensing the living presence of the Feminine Divine flowing in and through and as all?

That is certainly my “living dreams of visions.” What are your living dreams?

Would you like some guidance to help you step into the magic of this moment and welcome the Solstice Star?

Rabbi Tirzah Firestone created a “recipe” for a Solstice Eve ceremony. The recipe, along with a guided meditation from Tirzah, and Information on the celestial events from Emma is available on the Resource Page for Exhale!

You might also enjoy watching the recording of our gathering last Wednesday in which Emma and Tirzah and the global community of 120 people began the process of releasing 2020 and pivoting to welcome this Solstice Star.

When you register, simply click on the active link in the receipt and you'll get the password to the resource page. If you don't see that, email me and I'll make sure you get it.
