My search for the Grail. Part 1 The Questions.

2024 a year of sacred memory, dreaming dragons, and original prayer

Week 37--in which we begin the quest for the Grail with a few radical questions that have not been asked before

Friends, soul writers, mystics, witches, and lovers of prayer,

We are walking the heart center of the 4th prayer intensive in The Witch Sequence right now and suddenly everything has changed. And in ways I did not expect or see coming. But in ways that thrill me. And I hope will now thrill you.

My partners, Cathy Stevens Pratt and Emma Kupu Mitchell, and I spent two months this Spring getting our heads and hands around what we thought would be deeply profound yet highly useful content for this heart chakra intensive. In ART 4, we are walking the 4th path of the ancient feminine 7-circuit labyrinth to receive the 4th WitchArt gift of Myrrhophore Anointing.

We knew going in that this exploration was all about the heart chakra. But it took me a while to feel my way into the right title. I didn’t understand it at the time, but I now see that this title holds clues to the deep possibilities and meanings in Myrrhophore Anointing. Listen carefully to the full name of this intensive:

The ART of Becoming a Witch
How to Awaken, Remember, and Trust
The Ancestral Mysteries of Myrrhophore Anointing

Ancestral Mysteries

What are “ancestral mysteries?”

Well, if they’re mysteries, then why are we surprised that what is unfolding now in Myrrhophore Anointing feels like one veil after another after another being lifted. And mysteries revealed.

When we finally see what has been hidden for millennia, it’s beautiful. So beautiful. So real. So ancient. So holy. And so true.

With every cell of my body, I know that what we are remembering about the holy work of the Myrrhophores is true. At last, we are experiencing what everyone knew before the sky god religions swooped in with their laws and rules and dogmas and punishments.

At last, we are seeing and remembering what it looked like and felt like to live in a world before religion.

I was awakened last night with a reminder to look at the images from Crete in the time of the Goddess.

I’ve read several books about the importance of Crete as an archeological and anthropological record of the time when God was a woman. If you haven’t seen the images, know this: the Greeks of Crete covered their walls and pots with flowers, birds, animals, fish. Nature abundant. And images of women dancing, men playing music, and ecstatic youth somersaulting over bulls.

Of all the art that has been found, there is not one image of a weapon. Not one image of a conquering hero or even of a leader. Not one image of vanquished people. Not one.

I was also awakened with two pages of questions to begin to explore to help me and all of us begin to remember the ancestral mysteries of the Grail.

Why the Grail?

Because the Grail story holds the ancestral memories of not just the joyful Goddess-worshiping people of Crete, but of all that came after. All that we lost.

The Grail is calling us now to remember who we were and who we really are.

But that word, Grail, suffers the same fate of what religion has done to so many mystical magical words. Words like prayer, witch, dragon, Myrrhophore, mystic, anointing, even resurrection. If you’ve been reading these Notes from the Field for the last few years, you know that I have spent years redefining prayer and witch, restoring them to their original feminine power.

And as of today, I’m now adding Grail to the list.

But it’s not the Grail story we think we know.

No, if we stop there, we’re just stewing around in stale patriarchal misogyny. We've had quite enough of that. We are now embarking on a search for the Grail before the myths. Before the Christian take on the story with all its kings and knights and fighting.

So we have to step into a time before that story.

And I can’t help wondering where we’ll be when we finish our explorations.

In the next three Notes from the Field, I’ll share my explorations and invite you to experience your own. But right now, I’m packing for a week in St Paul with my sister whose wife just had major surgery. So i knew today’s newsletter had to be short. And I didn’t know how to start such a massive and radical quest.

So, as is so usual for me, I was awakened last night with exactly how to start. With questions. That’s what it means to be on a quest.

The questions guide the quest.

So here goes. These are the questions She dictated in the night. They thrill me no end. I hope they thrill you, too.

  • What is the Grail?
  • Or perhaps, Who is the Grail?
  • What is Magdalene’s connection to the Grail?
  • What is the original purpose of the Grail?
  • Where has the Grail been hidden?
  • Who hid it and why?
  • Who must now find it?
  • Where do we begin to search for the Grail?
  • What clues to the Grail are hiding in plain sight in our Goddess rosary prayer about being "full of grace."
  • How does full body anointing awaken the memory of the Grail?
  • What is the original meaning of the Grail question: “What ails thee?”
  • Who is being asked that question? Who is answering?
  • What can we learn about the Grail in ancient Crete?
  • What is the relationship between the Grail and the mystical teachings of the Tree of Life?
  • What is the relationship of Pluto and the Grail?
  • What is the relationship between the Grail and DNA?
  • What did the Myrrhophores and Witches know about the Grail? Is this why there were silenced and murdered?
  • Why is patriarchy so afraid of women remembering the truth about the Grail?
  • What will happen to each of us when we find the Grail?
  • What will change in the world when we find the Grail?

I can answer that last one for you right now. The answer is EVERYTHING. Everything.

And now I must pack.

Pick a question or two to explore in deep soul writing. Look up the images of ancient Crete. Google a bit about the Grail, but don’t believe anything you read.

I plan to be back next Saturday in time to write another Notes from the Field. If I don’t get back in time, don’t worry if there’s no newsletter.

The quest for the Grail will continue. The time is now.
