The Song of the Morning of the World
Theme: Magicians Reporting for Duty
Week 19: we have studied the five crimes and begun to pray the five Goddess prayers that heal them, now what?
Beautiful Magicians,
This is the seventh of what is turning out to be an on-going story that began with enumerating the five crimes of patriarchy and praying the five Goddess prayers that heal them.
When I started this series, I thought I'd share the five crimes and how they came into my awareness when I tried to pray the sorrowful mysteries of the rosary, and the five beautiful prayers I received that heal those five horrors.
As big as that is. And it is big; to the best of my knowledge no one has interwoven patriarchy and prayer quite like this. But it is turning out to be far bigger than I could imagine.
This series, it turns out, is a birthing canal.
But I am not the only mother.
This is a time of communal birthing.
The world is collapsing. I think that's obvious. Everyone but the far right fascists see that and are horrified. But instead of being frozen by fear, I would like to offer a radically different view of what is happening. And how we can heal it. And pray a new world into being.
This awareness began in August of 2018 during an intense Ho'oponopono prayer intensive when I was awakened in the night clearly hearing:
It wasn't a power structure; it was a reverence structure.
Right there, in one sentence is everything you need to know about life for 35,000 years before patriarchy. And everything you need to know about the 5,000 year period we call patriarchy. The time of war, violence, slavery...all five crimes.
The five crimes for the last 5,000 years under power structures have not disappeared. They are on full horrifying display today. They are:
- theft of our birthright dignity
- being silenced
- rape
- greed
- murder
Five thousand years of these crimes against humanity have transformed a world that was once a verdant garden overflowing with life into a barren wasteland that celebrates death or shrugs and looks the other way.
So what do we do?
How do we heal this wasteland?
How do we usher in a reverence structure?
I am grateful to whatever nudged me to start this series. Although it's turning out to be very different from what I expected. For the last seven weeks, the wasteland has been front and center in my heart, my mind, my dreams, and my writing.
Although, I didn't plan or even see hints of the outcome, I am oh so grateful to be paying attention to what wants to be seen and heard and done.
And what wants to be done through me—through us—is prayer.
But when I say prayer I'm not talking about begging some distance god to do something.
I'm talking about the original heart of prayer: celebration, joy, dance, love songs, reverence, creativity, sensuality--the full range of the mysteries of life, death, and return.
I'm talking about ushering in a time of reverence for all life.
In The Witch Sequence, we have been walking the ancient womb labyrinth for three and a half years. And slowly acquiring, or rather remembering, the WitchArt gifts that flourished in the 35,000 years of Matriarchy:
- activating and trusting our natural full body intuition
- effortlessly crisscrossing the threshold between worlds
- relishing the power, beauty, and joy of original prayer
- sharing the healing powers of anointing passed down through the Myrrhophore lineage
- sharing our natural oracular and divinatory powers
- living in reverence and devotion
It's been three years of discovery and delight.
Oh! This is who I really am.
Oh! This is who we really are.
Oh! This how we live in harmony and joy.
Now, as we walk the seventh and final path, we are making a whole new discovery. From the beginning in 2023, it was clear to me that the name of the final gift would be dragon. But I did not know what that meant or why such a strange "gift" had to be the culmination. But my body knew that DRAGON had to be the final gift.
Today, we are almost half way through ART 7 Dragon, we are beginning to see what it means to be dragon.
I was surprised to realize there is no 7th gift. Dragon is the full expression of the first six. You are dragon when you embody intuition, threshold crossing, prayer, Myrrhophore anointing, divination and devotion.
Another massive discovery waited for us all this time. it's the discovery of the story of time over the last forty thousand years.
Three things happened to activate this discovery:
- First, eight years of studying the harm done by patriarchy that culminated in articulating the five crimes.
- Second, Reading Demetra George's theory on the relationship of the Moon cycle, Goddess, and patriarchy. In brief, she suggests that the Goddess went into her cave for five thousand years, a time span that equates to the three days of the dark moon. (For a full explanation, read Mysteries of the Dark Moon.)
That means we are now at the edge, a strange and fertile time between the demise of one structure and a future of another.
Cathy Stevens Pratt made this simple illustration of George's theory. The black wedge is the five thousand years of patriarchal power. The rainbow colors are the time we are living in. The time of possibility.

- And then, a third thing happened, totally unexpected. A month ago, a friend in North Carolina, sent me a link to a substack article about the difference between patriarchy, which the author depicted as a hierarchical triangle, matriarchy which she presented as a circle, and a straight bar to illustrate the length of time for each.
It's one thing to know that we lived in a Matriarchal matrilineal way of life since the beginning of the Upper Paleolithic 38,000 years ago and patriarchy has been dominant for just five thousand years.
It's a whole other thing to see it laid out.
I sent the simple bar graph with a long pink section signaling matriarchy, a short grey segment for the time of patriarchy, and a green bit signaling a new beginning to Cathy. She spent a couple weeks creating her version of this timeline, not with dates, or labels like Paleolithic or Neolithic, but with pictures.
Just glancing at the long pink section overflowing with animals, trees, snakes, birds, frogs, dolphins, statues of the Goddess, handprints from the caves, sacred fires, and the sacred mound in Crete fills your heart. No thinking required. You can just see and feel and remember life when God was a Woman.
Then, looking at the grey segment hurts. Cathy wove in things patriarchy has wrought: stacks of money, towers falling, bombs, barbed wire, shackles, a crown, and a dead river. The heart hurts.
The final section, the future, is green, A pretty green with a few bees and a frog--the canaries that signal life or death. But it doesn't have anything else. It's a raw canvas of possibility. Of hope. It's vagueness invites each one of us to pick up our brush and create the garden we want to live in.
I can't take my eyes off this timeline. It gives me such hope. It inspires me to keep doing this holy work. This holy work of prayer.
And then today, news arrived that our work, our hope, our belief in possibility, and our prayers have done some great good.
Did you hear? The Motherless website was taken down by the Dutch government!
What a perfect Mother's Day gift!
Now we must send prayers of gratitude to the journalists at CNN and in Germany who brought this horror to light, and to the tens of thousands of women who screamed their pain. We were heard.
That's just one step in ending the wasteland and ushering in Her Garden of Reverence.
Cathy is in the process of finalizing the timeline and getting it available on her website for purchase. I know where I want mine: hovering over my altar in sight all day every day.
I asked Cathy what she was going to call it. After a while we felt/heard/sensed the name:
The Song of the Morning of the World
Why?
- Because the pink lush long section is truly a portrait of the MORNING of the world.
- And the grey section full of instruments of pain is the MOURNING of the world.
- And the green section reminds us that we are here to sing the song of the Morning of the World!
So ten guesses what the name of our new prayer practice will be:
The Song of the Morning of the World rosary circle.
A team of us are developing the prayers. Watch for an announcement in this newsletter when it's ready.
And watch for your first opportunity to purchase the timeline: The Song of the Morning of the World. It will be ready for you next Sunday.
Until then, please join me in praying the five Goddess prayers that heal the wounds of patriarchy:
- Our birthright dignity is ours once more
- Our powerful voices are heard once more
- Our sovereign bodies are revered once more
- Our gifts and labor are honored once more
- We are Her Sacred Treasure of Life
Life is fragile. Handle with Reverence.
And prayer. Lots and lots of delicious prayer.
Janet
PS: if you missed any of the crimes and prayers, here's the whole series:
On week 13 I wrote about the radical differences between a matriarchal society based on reverence and a patriarchal structure based on power.
On week 14, I listed the five crimes, wrote about the first—theft of our birthright dignity--and offered a prayer to heal theft.
On week 15, I wrote about the second crime, being silenced.
On week 16, I wrote about the unbearable crime of r@pe. The crime that just keeps growing.
On week 17, I enumerated how greed has poisoned not just human life, but all life.
Last Sunday, week 18, I wrote about the culminating crime of murder.
