What is this radiant blue light trying to tell us?
2024 a year of sacred memory, dreaming dragons, and original prayer
Week 30--in which a radiant blue light arrives, stops us cold, and leaves us wondering what just happened
Friends, soul writers, mystics, witches, and lovers of prayer,
The central mystery and totally unexpected surprise at the heart of the upcoming A.R.T. 4 intensive on Myrrhophore Anointing is the person of Mary Magdalene.
Felicity Warner tells us in her seminal book, Sacred Oils, that Mary Magdalene is the most famous in an ancient lineage of Myrrhophores. That is, women who bear the myrrh.
Myrrh is of the utmost importance to Magdalene the woman, to anointing the sacrament, and to this radical intensive designed to expand our heart chakras a full 360 degrees.
You’ve probably heard the story of the Magi (astrologers) who followed unusual celestial movements until they arrived at a place in Palestine where a baby had been born. They brought gifts. Very odd ones by modern standards: myrrh, frankincense, and gold.
Why odd? Because myrrh and frankincense have been used for burial rituals for millennia.
Christian eyes read this story as portending Yeshua’s death. But if Yeshua’s story is to end not just with his death but with his rebirth, his resurrection, then those gifts also portend the arrival of the woman who will anoint him in life, death, and rebirth—Mary Magdalene.
So we knew Mary Magdalene was at the heart of Myrrhophore Anointing. What we didn’t know when we started was that Mary Magdalene isn’t one person.
Magdalene is three!
Miryam—Woman
Miryam, the beloved companion, walked and taught with Yeshua. She was not just an apostle; she was the apostle. She anointed him, bore witness to his death, escaped to Alexandria, wrote the first gospel, taught and died in France. Miryam knows what happened at the tomb.
Mary Magdalene—Archetype
This mysterious and miraculous figure has been the focus of two thousand years of wonder, speculation, and devotion. She is alive, present, and in communication with everyone who seeks her. No matter how many books are written about Magdalene, she remains a mystery.
Magdala—Oracle
This magnificent, regal, council holds the lineage of all Myrrhophores in all time. She is a cosmic library of all that has ever been known. She greets us as we step into the heart chakra circuit, and accompanies us for 77 days as we remember who we really are.
In Myrrhophore Anointing we will meet and work with all three faces of the Magdalen Triad. Each has something unique and personal to teach us.
This intensive began to take shape on April 22, when Cathy Stevens Pratt and I got on zoom for our first planning session. The night before, Cathy had received her first message from Miryam. Cathy was quite surprised by what Miryam said.
Turns out the woman who brought us the sacrament of anointing isn’t limiting anointing to working with oils.
Cathy had sent me the words, but when I want to really absorb something, I like to read it aloud or even better, have someone read it to me. So I asked Cathy to read Miryam’s full message. Twice. I listened intently, staring off in space as Miryam’s words caressed my body.
The full message from Miryam and all three faces of the Magdalen will be in a special Magdalen Triad Handbook. But here are a few startling highlights:
Miryam speaks:
Anointing happens many ways. It is all about witnessing and making yourself whole. After you become whole in your witnessing, meaning there is no judgment at all, your anointing can become a healing.
- You may witness with your eyes. You anoint by seeing the other with no judgment...
- You may anoint with a touch…
- You may anoint with words…spoken with intention to see and witness, not to sway or make different.
- You may anoint with thoughts. The mind is so powerful and used in this way, neutral, no judgment and loving can allow another to heal instantly.
- To do this an open heart and skill is needed. Each time you must practice. Feel into your body….
- Being a healer is being empty and clear. A clear channel for healing love to flow.
As Cathy was beginning to read Miryam’s message for the second time, I glanced over at Cathy. She was in her usual zoom spot in a cozy corner of her home sitting in front of an embroidered piece of fabric. I have seen Cathy in that spot for three years. But I have never seen this.

After a minute or so, I came to my senses and pressed record. The Blue Light stayed with us for 33 minutes! This entire weird, wild, astonishing recording is on our Resource Page for A.R.T. 4.
Neither of us had ever experienced anything like this. Indeed, no one I know has ever had an encounter with light quite like this.
To help one another, we kept talking. Cathy would share how she was feeling. And I would reflect back to her what I was seeing. And what I was seeing was that slowly Cathy was becoming transparent.
Transparent! I could see the embroidered flowers on the fabric behind her THROUGH her.
The light has now returned four more times. Each time, Cathy and I were talking about one of the three faces of the Magdalen Triad.
We do not understand the light or what it is trying to teach us about the forms and purpose of true Myrrhophore Anointing. This is an ongoing and, like the Magdalen herself, probably an endless mystery. And one each one of us must explore for ourselves. But it’s clear that the light is showing us something about Magdalen, the sacrament of anointing, the ancient lineage of the Myrrhophores, and how to open our hearts to heal into wholeness.
Here are a just a few initial thoughts on what the intense blue light might be showing us:
- To prepare to anoint or be anointed, we must first release all old wounds and judgments; forgiveness makes us empty
- From empty, we can become transparent
- Anointing happens to and through us; it is not something we produce or control
- Blue is somehow important; is it Archangel Michael blessing our anointing
- Anointing is a reciprocal interplay, weaving love back and forth along an endless lemniscate path
- Blue light seems to presage the presence of the Magdalen and, because anointing is reciprocal, it must also mean Yeshua, her beloved, is present as well. It is they who are our teachers
About twenty minutes into sitting with the blue light, I felt a command to get “Radiant Blue,” a prayer I wrote six years ago for a profoundly healing Ho‘oponopono intensive called The Goddess Forgives Me. Sue Kosharek, an artist in Minnesota, let us use a portrait of a Goddess with a gorgeous blue face crowned with six red roses. I took one look at that painting and this prayer came through.
Only now do I realize how prescient this prayer was. It explains how forgiveness leads to freedom, which leads to transparency, which leads to love, which invites healing and wholeness.
In other words, this prayer describes Myrrhophore Anointing perfectly. And I might have missed it completely, but for the intense blessing of Cathy enclosed in Radiant Blue Light.
If you want to really feel this prayer, read it aloud.

I am African, not-African
I am Polynesian, not-Polynesian
European, not-European
Indigenous, not-Indigenous
Asian, not-Asian
Inuit not-Inuit
Latin not-Latin
I am black
I am brown
I am bronze
I am butter
I am blush
Freed from all my histories
Freed from ancient wounds
Freed from all the stories that have chased me down through time
Unchained, unfettered, unsilenced, unhidden
my heart of light dissolves into Light
and I begin to glow
I am radiant now
So radiant
I have turned blue
I am me, not-me
I am you, not-you
I am us, not-us
I am them, not-them
I am all that is sacred
All that is precious
All that is love
I am who I was and who I ever will be
The First Light shines through me now
And I am Radiant Blue
I read "Radiant Blue" to Cathy. Twice. As I finished the second reading, the light began to fade and finally disappear.
We sat still for a while. Staring at one another in shock. Laughing. Crying a bit. Taking big breaths.
What was that? Who was that? What just happened? We didn’t know and, even having seen the radiant blue light five times now, we still don’t know. Not really.
Except to say that she, the Magdalene, the queen of anointing is present. And she is teaching us ancient truths about anointing. Truths the Myrrhophores knew once and truths she is asking us to remember.
As Magdalene said to Emma in last Sunday’s Notes from the Field, “Now is the Time!”
We open next Sunday, August 4, but please don’t wait.
Cathy and Emma and I have prepared a host of materials to help you prepare.
- You’ll want time to digest our Welcome Handbook, explore the ancient wisdom of the labyrinth in our brand-new Labyrinth Handbook, and peruse some of the mystic witch prayers in our Prayer Handbook, including something new and exciting: how to activate the oils as you form a Goddess mudra.
- Plus there are several fun bonus videos to watch including the Blue Light.
- You'll also want a little time to gather materials to begin to make your personal Shamanic Womb Initiation Mandala during our Opening Ceremony.
- Magdalen herself will initiate you in our Closing Ceremony 77 days later.
Myrrhophore Anointing begins in one week.
And you, Radiant One, are invited.
I’ll send you a welcome email with all the details as soon as you register.
to stepping into the radiant blue light and beginning to remember the ancient wisdom of Myrrhophore Anointing
