2024 a year of sacred memory, dreaming dragons, and original prayer
Week 3--in which we find our spot on the ancient map of the safe path through chaos
Friends, soul writers, mystics, witches, and lovers of prayer,
Chaos is afoot. That’s clear from even a cursory glance at global events. And it’s even clearer when you check in with a few astrologers. For me, that means following Marcia Wade, Michael Lennox, Pam Gregory, Emma Kupu Mitchell, and Lorna Bevan.
As I read, I find myself in two different emotional states at the same moment: thrilled and terrified.
- Terrified because, well, just look at the violence, fascism, and hate bubbling up around the world. It can feel pretty hopeless.
- But also thrilled because the astrologers are clear that it’s time to become an agent of change, of service, of love. To do something with your life that’s bigger than you are, bigger even than you think you can be. Something that makes a difference. Or, in my words: something that “heals the wasteland.”
The wasteland is obvious. The question is what can we do to heal it.
As you read this letter, a cosmic shift is unfolding over your head.
- Yesterday, for the first time in 1500 years, Pluto joined the Sun in the last degree of Capricorn. The last degree is the place of transformation, urgency, of something big demanding to be born.
- And today, Pluto and the Sun are meeting in Aquarius. If you’re anywhere near my age, you hear the word “Aquarius” and launch into singing “It’s the dawning of the age of Aquarius.”
It’s been an awfully long time coming, but are we, finally, going to embrace a new vision of what we could create—a good future for all. Is that possible? Is it insane to hold such a holy vision while the world is burning?
I believe it is. Here’s why:
My son Jerry was here last week. If you’ve read Writing Down Your Soul, or these Notes from the Field, or followed me on facebook, you probably have a soft spot in your heart for him. People care about Jerry and his story because, well, he has quite the story!
But it’s not just his story. It’s also our story. It’s our story because it’s the story of the astonishing power of prayer. And it’s prayer that will heal the wasteland.
Here’s a condensed version of Jerry’s story.
Jerry was subpoenaed in May 2013 to name fellow activists in Occupy before a secret federal grand jury. Jerry told me he would never give names to the government. Any student of history knows what happened in the 1950s when the government persecuted anyone it decided was left-wing.
So when the judge asked a question, Jerry stood silent. The judge screamed, “Don’t you know what I can do to you?” Jerry knew. But stayed silent. Red-faced, the judge ordered my son to federal prison.
By late October, Jerry began to fall apart.
I didn’t know what to do, so I turned to the Masters and Teachers of the Akashic Record for help.
Listen to their instructions, because this is a prayer practice you may need someday. It’s one we’re going to explore in depth in my upcoming intensive on Original Prayer.
The Masters and Teachers told me to gather a critical mass of people and ask them to shower the prison and everyone connected with it with unconditional divine love and light for five minutes every day at 11am. That’s it. No petition. No words. Not even the intention to release Jerry. At the end of the five minutes, I was told to say Ho‘oponopono to transmute all the negativity rising off the prison into the pathway of light.
I posted a request on Facebook and was floored when people around the world agreed to join me in this strange prayer practice. We began on November 19, 2013. One hundred people met in the ethers to shower a massive NYC prison with unconditional love. Nothing happened. But we kept our vigil. Every day.
When Christmas and New Years came and went, Jerry and his attorney told me they doubted he would be released before April, when the grand jury would be unseated and the judge would have to let him go.
But I kept praying. And praying. And praying. All 100 kept praying.
On Monday, January 28, 2014, I got a collect call from an NY number. It was Jerry. Standing in his prison garb in the lobby of the courthouse. The judge had released him.
But that’s not the end of the story.
Jerry getting out of prison wasn’t an ending; it was a beginning. A strange beautiful seed had been planted. Not just in Jerry’s life. In mine. And now in yours.
Pre-prison, Jerry planned on getting a PhD in philosophy. But when he stepped out of the courthouse, he walked to the prison, looked up at the ninth floor where he had spent eight months, and made a vow to go to law school to keep people out of prison.
Today Jerry is a public defender in NYC. He kept his vow.
Prison redirected my life, too. Although I didn’t know it at the time.
Watching my son suffer in prison propelled me straight into the arms of prayer. And not just prayer for Jerry. I came to a shocking realization one day that I had to pray for the judge! Every sinew in my body screamed NO, but I sensed that if I couldn’t pray to release the judge from his pain, he couldn’t release my son from prison. It took every ounce of self-control I had, but I forced myself to pray that the judge’s negative cords be cut and transmuted to the pathway of light.
When Jerry was released, I asked the Masters and Teachers if our prayers had helped. They said our prayers got the judge to ask himself a question he had never asked before: “What is authority?” I wondered about that and reread the judge’s 22-page release. At the end of a long diatribe about how much he disliked Jerry and hated his politics, the judge wrote, “But I do not have the authority to keep him in prison.” And with the flourish of his signature, Jerry was released four months early. Four months that may have saved his life.
Thanks to Covid and a new law career, it’s been four years since Jerry has been able to visit. We packed every day with stories, memories, and mementoes.
- He put on the watch I gave his father in 1984.
- He chose some jewelry his father had given me to give his sweetheart.
- One night with my sister and brother-in-law, the conversation meandered to novels. Jerry started talking about his favorite genre, fantasy.
Jerry pounded the table and shouted, “Show me the map! I need to see the map! Where’s the map!”
The next day in deep soul writing, I wrote “show me the map” at the top of a page and something unexpected surfaced.
On one level, I thought about maps writers create like The 100 Acre Wood, Middle Earth, or Oz.
But on another, I realized I have always created maps of mystical healing, maps that follow a trail of prayers.
- My first project was Spiritual Geography a book of prayers that moves through the seven countries in a divorce from Betrayal all the way to Peace.
- That series led to getting a contract for Writing Down Your Soul, which in turn birthed a 5-part series, Your Soul Wants Five Things.
Why a map?
Because I see the mystical life as a system, a series of interconnected experiences, one leading to another, following a meaningful, if hidden, path. The problem is that when you’re on the path, you can’t see where you are. You’re too deep “in the weeds,” as they say.
But there is a path. And I want to see it. I want to see the whole story. I want to find where I am on that map and where I’m going. Where I could be going, if I follow the path.
Just like Jerry, “I want to see the map! Show me the map.” And I can. And now, you can, too.
Because I’ve stumbled upon the ultimate map of the mystical life: the ancient 7-circuit labyrinth carved into stone ages ago.
The books all say no one knows the original purpose of the labyrinth. They’re wrong. That ancient labyrinth is the womb of the Mother. She holds the memory of who we were once—and who we can be again—women expressing our WitchArts to guide and heal and bless our communities.
Last March, I opened The A.R.T. of Becoming a Witch: How to Awaken, Remember, and Trust Your Natural Intuitive Senses. We began by exploring what our inner eyes can see that our outer eyes cannot. And how to hear what our physical ears do not. With three more intuitive senses to explore: touchless touch, unconscious knowing, and astral travel, I had a startling awareness.
- ART was not a standalone event; it was the first of seven.
- Because there are seven original WitchArts.
- And—an even bigger surprise—we awaken each of the seven as we walk the ancient 7-circuit labyrinth path.
My witch sister and artistic collaborator, Cathy Stevens Pratt, and I met almost daily for the next two months watching in awe as the map slowly revealed its mysteries. And its name: The Witch Sequence.
Last August, we introduced The Witch Sequence map to the women and men who came to the 2nd ART intensive on Threshold Crossing, aka the mystical theta brainwave state.
As I said in last Sunday’s Notes from the Field, I spent this past week inviting members of that intensive as well as the first ART intensive, plus members of The Lotus and the Lily that just ended.
Now, as promised, it’s your turn.
I thought you might like to see where you are on the map. Where we are all. Right at the entrance to the 3rd circuit to awaken, remember, and trust the power, beauty, and sheer joy of original prayer.
- Prayer unlike anything you’ve been told about prayer.
- Prayer before patriarchy and prayer after patriarchy.
- Prayer that can, and will, and must heal, the wasteland.
And what better moment than now—with Pluto pointing the way—to put your feet on that X and step onto the longest and richest circuit of the map, the circuit of Original Prayer.
The page Cathy and I created for this intensive is full of information on both the big picture, the big map, and then, the content of this circuit on Original Prayer.
Take your time.
Let your intuition and your sacred heart guide you as you read the page. And don't miss meeting Origina, the Memory of Prayer!
Then, please join me and 108 other women and men as we embrace what well may be our most powerful and timely WitchArt: the Art of Prayer.
to stepping onto the ancient path and following the safe path home,
PS: There are no pre-requisites. Except perhaps a wild loving heart and the desire to make a difference in this world.
