Stopping the bus for love

Week 36--in which everything comes to a halt for my son's wedding

Beautiful Ones,

I have sent a Notes from the Field newsletter every week for 18 years. I created this newsletter list in 2007 in preparation for Writing Down Your Soul's debut in January of 2009. And added a few thousand names as I traveled the country when the book came out.

I don't want to even try to count how many letters I've sent!

It's my delight, even in heart-breaking times to send you some kind of missive.

Sometimes it's a complex story.
Sometimes a mystical discovery.
Sometimes a description of the intense project I'm working on.
Sometimes it's just a prayer. Just that. A prayer.

The only time I remember NOT sending a Sunday newsletter was the day hurricane Ian arrived. I was trying to decide if I should evacuate or not. I opened my computer to check on the weather news and was greeted by the blue screen of death!

I called my computer guru and he knew immediately that the hard drive was dead and told me not to touch a thing, he'd come get it and order a new computer.

So for the next 9 days I was computer-less, a very strange state for a writer. And I had no way to let all the subscribers know. So by the second Sunday with no newsletter, people actually called to see if I was OK. They assumed Ian had carried me away.

So today, for the first time, I am announcing a two Sunday hiatus.

No hurricane is in sight, and my computer is happy. My reason is for not writing to you for two weeks is the best reason imaginable: my precious son is getting married.

Jerry and his sweetheart live in Jackson Heights (Queens NY) where Jerry is a public defender with Legal Aid. Maura is an art professor with a fresh PHD in Art History and incredible work experiences in galleries and museums.

Their home is art and books. Books and art. In other words, perfect!

I'm flying to NY next week and will stay with them for a few days before we all head to the hotel in NYC for the wedding on Sunday the 14th.

I'm certain by the time I return, I'll have lots of love stories to share with you.

Until then, may we all remember that the heart of existence is love.

Life is Fragile. Handle with Reverence.
